Cipriani is joined by his London Wasps team mates Riki Flutey and Paul Sackey, as well as Bath Rugby’s Olly Barkley and Gloucester’s James Simpson Daniel in the shortlist for Players’ Player of the Year, whilst the highly rated quartet of Danny Care (Harlequins), Tom Croft (Leicester Tigers), James Haskell (London Wasps) and Chris Robshaw (Harlequins) make up the nominations for the PRA Mercedes Benz Young Player of the Year.
On hearing of his nomination Cipriani commented “I’m really humbled to have been nominated alongside such outstanding players in both categories. Whilst there is still some unfinished business this season, it has been a remarkable year for me, and to be nominated by my fellow players for these Awards is a tremendous honour.”
This year is the 10th Annual PRA Awards which celebrate the achievements of the 2007-2008 season. Over 100 players will be attending to enjoy the end of season finale and show their support for both the PRA and its registered charity, The PRA Benevolent Fund, which assists players who have suffered serious injury or illness.
Damian Hopley, PRA Chief Executive, said: “This promises to be another outstanding evening attended by a number of stars from the Guinness Premiership and the International game. There is a lot of excitement about the bright future for English rugby and this is an opportunity for the PRA and rugby supporters to show our thanks and appreciation to the players for their efforts this season and to raise some much needed funds for deserving player causes.”
