Following the ruling of the French Courts finding Phil Greening guilty of fouling Aurelien Rougerie 'both technically and against the spirit of the game', the Professional Rugby Players Association (PRA) have swiftly come to the defence of the former England hooker.
The PRA wish to set the record straight regarding the incident, which was a  legitimate hand off by Greening on Rougerie in a pre-season friendly between Wasps and Clermont-Ferrand in 2002.

Commenting on behalf of Phil Greening, PRA CEO, Damian Hopley said "We were stunned that the decision went against Phil. Throughout his distinguished career for Gloucester, Wasps and England, Phil's reputation as a good professional went before him. We have had assurances that Wasps will deal with this matter. Phil now wants to put this matter behind him and restore his impeccable reputation.

We will be taking up this matter with both Premier Rugby and the RFU as it sets the most dangerous of precedents for our sport."
